Check out the new book map of the Iron Portal Series that I made! They are now inside all the books in the series. The ones in the books are in gray scale, but here’s the full color version. Isn’t she gorge?

I made it using Inkarnate, an online map making program. And then I moved it into Procreate on my iPad to add a few other map details. I love book maps and got into fantasy map making during Covid, when I wanted to live in a fantasy world.

I know it’s not an accurate representation of a portion of Washington State. Here’s the disclaimer I put in the books:

The following map is a fictional interpretation of Washington State after a big earthquake that occurred years ago in this story. I took a lot of creative license and used the actual map only as a starting point. You’ll notice that coastlines, mountain ranges, islands and other elements are not exactly how they look today.

If you live here, like I do, and your area isn’t depicted correctly, that’s because it was destroyed by the earthquake…or it’s underwater. Sorry.

In addition to Inkarnate, here are some other map making resources I used and learned from:

Fantasy Mapping by Wesley Jones

Fantasy Mapmaker by Jared Blando

For Procreate, I purchased brushes from BeeJayDel, Art with Flo, and Josh from MapEffects.

Author Jessica Khoury makes gorgeous book maps! Prepared to be wowed. She does commission work and sells her own brushes, but I don’t think I’ve purchased any of hers…yet. She also has some older map tutorials on her Youtube channel.
